This exterior emergency lighting installation was completed following a break-in at a commercial bank, where the client required a safe illuminated escape route across a flat roof.. The escape route passed across a flat roof, where the existing lighting was inadequate to provide safe illumination during an emergency evacuation.
We were appointed to extend and alter the existing exterior lighting installation by installing new LED bulkhead lighting and emergency lighting throughout the escape route. The installation provided continuous illumination while ensuring the route remained safely lit in the event of a mains power failure.
The lighting was automatically controlled using a photocell, allowing the external lighting to operate only during hours of darkness while reducing unnecessary energy consumption.
Particular attention was paid to changes in level and direction along the escape route. Additional emergency luminaires were positioned to clearly illuminate changes in direction, stair access and level changes in accordance with emergency lighting design principles, ensuring occupants could safely evacuate the building if required.
Due to the roofing construction, all containment was installed using galvanised steel conduit securely fixed to the felt roof. Every fixing was carefully sealed to maintain the roof’s waterproof integrity while providing a durable installation suitable for long-term external use.
The project was completed in Aldridge, with all lighting fully tested and commissioned to provide a reliable emergency escape route for the building.
