IGS Electrical completed a commercial external lighting installation for a newly constructed smoking shelter at an energy company’s premises in Solihull. The client required a robust and reliable lighting solution that provided safe illumination during the hours of darkness while also incorporating emergency lighting to maintain visibility in the event of a mains power failure.
The installation was designed to withstand the outdoor environment while complementing the commercial premises with a neat and professional finish.
LED Lighting & Emergency Lighting
The smoking shelter was fitted with high-efficiency LED bulkhead luminaires complete with integrated emergency lighting. This provides reliable everyday illumination while ensuring the escape route remains illuminated during a power outage.

Steel Conduit Installation
Due to the exposed location, all wiring was installed in galvanised steel conduit to provide excellent mechanical protection against accidental damage and the external environment.
The conduit system was carefully installed to follow the building structure, producing a tidy and durable installation suitable for a busy commercial site.
Automatic Lighting Controls
To improve energy efficiency, the lighting installation was controlled using a combination of a photocell and programmable timeclock.
This ensures the lights only operate during periods of darkness and within the required operating hours, reducing unnecessary energy consumption while maintaining a safe working environment.
