Care Park Electrical Infrastructure Upgrade

Sector: Commercial
Location: Bedfordshire

Project Overview

IGS Electrical delivered a major electrical infrastructure upgrade for a care park in Bedford after the existing electrical supply and standby generator could no longer support the site’s increasing electrical demand.

The project involved creating two independent 400A electrical supplies, each supported by its own standby generator, significantly improving the site’s capacity, resilience and future reliability.

The Challenge

The care park relied on a single electrical supply serving electric heating throughout the site. As demand increased, both the incoming supply and standby generator became overloaded, requiring a long-term solution to improve capacity while maintaining continuity of supply.

Our Solution

Working alongside the DNO, we installed a new 400A incoming supply, constructed a purpose-built electrical plant room and implemented a new busbar and switch-fuse distribution system. The site was divided into two independently supplied electrical networks, with live energy monitoring and sub-metering providing improved visibility of electrical consumption.

The Result

The completed installation delivered a resilient and future-proof electrical infrastructure, with dual 400A supplies, independent standby generation and real-time energy monitoring supporting the ongoing operation of the care park.
